Job Description: Veterinary Internal Medicine Technician
Position Overview:
The Veterinary Internal Medicine Technician plays a crucial role in providing high-quality care and support to patients receiving internal medicine treatments and procedures. This position requires a strong background in veterinary nursing, specifically in the field of internal medicine. The Veterinary Internal Medicine Technician will work closely with veterinary professionals, including veterinarians and other technicians, to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of veterinary internal medicine services.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist veterinarians in performing internal medicine procedures, including but not limited to endoscopy, ultrasound, radiography, and specialized diagnostic testing.
2. Provide exceptional nursing care and support to patients undergoing internal medicine treatments, including administering medications, monitoring anesthesia, and managing post-operative care.
3. Conduct physical examinations and obtain patient medical histories, accurately documenting findings in patients' medical records.
4. Prepare, maintain, and sterilize specialized equipment used in internal medicine procedures, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
5. Perform laboratory tests and analyses, including blood work, urine analysis, and cytology, to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
6. Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, medication administration, and other relevant information, ensuring they are equipped to support their pet's recovery.
7. Collaborate with other veterinary professionals to develop and implement treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and make necessary adjustments to optimize outcomes.
8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and medication administration records.
9. Provide exceptional customer service by addressing client inquiries, concerns, and providing updates on patient status.
10. Participate in continuing education opportunities to stay abreast of the latest advancements in veterinary internal medicine.
Qualifications:
1. Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT) is required.
3. Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician, with a specific focus on internal medicine.
4. In-depth knowledge of internal medicine procedures, diagnostic techniques, and treatment options.
5. Proficient in utilizing specialized veterinary equipment, including endoscopy, ultrasound, and radiography machines.
6. Strong understanding of anesthesia protocols and monitoring.
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with pet owners and veterinary team members.
8. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
9. Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining accurate and thorough patient records.
